Thick Air offers an improvised synthesizer suite tailor made for feline adventures and catnaps. On the opening three tracks, light melodies dance in looped rhythm, anchored gently by sparkling drones and bass lines, emboldening play and exploration. The back half of Soma Cataria provides tones to aid in relaxation; "At Peace" and "Another Log On The Fire" twinkle, allowing the cat body to come to rest in comfortable slumber, while "Lightening" and "Dreaming Field" launch feline consciousness through the finer dimensions into ever more entrancing astral quests. Mixed and mastered with a purring cat in lap, Matt LaJoie's fifth Thick Air release is the project's most soothing collection of synth improvisations to-date, and a perfect companion for crisp, cozy, woodstove-fueled autumn and winter afternoons.
